Oilmen Add Pitching Trio to 2019 Roster

Whiting, Ind. – May 16, 2019 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen added a trio of pitchers to the 2019 roster on Thursday.

Derek Lasky, RHP, University of Indianapolis / Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso HS
After starting his collegiate career by spending the 2018 season at Indiana Wesleyan, Lasky joined the University of Indianapolis pitching staff for 2019 as part of a team that enjoyed a 30-20 season. He went 2-3 with a 4.85 ERA while appearing in 11 games and making five starts. He logged 26 innings and racked up 27 strikeouts while walking 19. Lasky is a Northwest Indiana local as he graduated from Valparaiso High School in 2017.   

Anthony Hernandez, RHP, College of DuPage / Chicago, Ill. / Taft HS
The Chicago native just completed his freshman season at the College of DuPage, which finished the year 27-18-1. In his first season as a Chaparral, he worked 22 innings over 12 games (one start) and posted a 3-2 record while recording 17 strikeouts. Before joining the College of DuPage, Hernandez played for coach Richard Pildes at Taft High School, helping the team earn a conference title his senior season.

Kyle Iwinski, RHP, Kankakee CC / Griffith, Ind. / Griffith HS
A 6-foot-5 righty, Iwinski is finishing up his senior season under Griffith High School head coach Brian Jennings, who will also serve as a volunteer assistant for the Oilmen this summer. Iwinski recently signed to continue his baseball career at Kankakee Community College. He will join catcher Gabe Pulido as Griffith natives on the Oilmen roster this summer.

The Oilmen will open the season on Wednesday, May 29 against the Bloomington Bobcats at 6:15 p.m. in a game that will take place at the Corn Crib in Normal, Ill. The home opener is slated for Thursday, June 6 at 7:10 p.m. at Oil City Stadium.
