Guzek Earns Third MCL Honor of Oilmen Career

Chicago, Ill. – July 20, 2020 – For the first time this season and the third time in his Northwest Indiana Oilmen career, right hander Jack Guzek (Iowa / Manhattan, Ill.) received the Midwest Collegiate League Pitcher of the Week award on Monday.

Guzek pitched his way to the MCL honor during his start at Crestwood on Wednesday, when he permitted just four hits over six shutout innings while racking up nine strikeouts and issuing no walks. The Oilmen ace has not allowed a run all season in 13 innings and has 17 strikeouts against just two bases on balls. Guzek is no stranger to MCL Pitcher of the Week honors as he won the award in two of the first three weeks during the 2019 campaign, taking the distinction on June 3 and June 17.

MCL Minutemen first baseman Patrick Doran (North Carolina Central / Chicago, Ill.), who played for the Oilmen in 2019, was named the league’s hitter of the week.

After Sunday’s game against Joliet was rained out, the Oilmen (9-4) will begin a three-game road swing on Monday at 3 p.m. at Howie Minas Field in Midlothian, Ill. against the MCL Minutemen. The game will be available on the Oilmen Broadcasting Network with Brandon Vickrey, Andrew Fish and Ryan Zimmerman on the call.
