NWI Looks To Rebound Following Soggy Evening at Oil City Stadium

After Delay, NWI Falls To Snipes
The game was delayed by torrential rains that blew through Oil City Stadium about an hour before game time, with the grounds crew needing two hours to make it playable. But with a raucous crowd gathered, the Oilmen and Snipes got underway at 9:30 p.m. local time.

Unfortunately for those fans, the Oilmen fell behind early, and surrendered six late runs to fall short against the visiting Lexington Snipes by a final of 9-2.

NWI committed four errors in the loss leading to four unearned runs against starter Brett Schneider (1-2) and reliever Mike Hanchar, and the normally-powerful offense managed just three hits against a stout Snipes pitching staff. It is the first time in franchise history that the club finished with more errors than hits in a game.

It was also just the second time ever that the Oilmen have lost a Thursday home game (8-2).

Bartolone Bashing The Ball
A bright spot for NWI last night was Nick Bartolone, who recorded two of the three hits and both RBI for the Oilmen. After his two-run single in the third, which tied the game, he was also the only batter to reach base the rest of the way, on an error in the ninth. He is now batting .429 on the season, the best mark on the club.

Still In First
Despite the loss, the Oilmen are still in first place in the overall MCL standings, maintaining a one-game lead on both the Snipes and the DuPage County Hounds, who visit Oil City Stadium this weekend.
