Eight-Run Seventh Sinks NWI
Looking to sweep the two-game set from Southland at home, the Oilmen took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning. But from there, it was all downhill, as the Vikings sent 13 men to the plate and scored eight runs to all but seal the deal en route to a 10-5 win on Friday night.

The Vikings took advantage of nine combined walks by NWI pitching as well as several hit batters and three errors. They scored their eight runs in the seventh on only five hits.

The Oilmen were able to knock out Vikings starter Evan Nietfeldt with two runs in the sixth that followed a big error by shortstop Jerry Houston, but Andy Wellwerts (3-1) surrendered walks to the three batters he faced in the seventh, kicking off the rally for the Vikings.

Despite the loss, the seven strikeouts Wellwerts amassed were a season-high. Leiff Clarkson also went 2-for-5 with a home run for NWI.

Tillman Emerges
Rashawn Tillman, stuck in a slump over the last few games, broke out in the late innings, driving in two runs with two RBI singles. It was his first multi-hit (and multi-RBI) game since June 19 vs Lexington. He also did not strike out in the game, marking the first time since June 19 that the athletic outfielder accomplished that feat.

Standings Watch
With DuPage County’s win over Lexington last night, the Oilmen sit one and a half games back of the Hounds for first place in the MCL, one-half game back of the Snipes, and locked in a virtual tie for third with Southland. The Vikings play the Hounds tonight, while Lexington is idle.
