Oilmen Announce Departure of GM Jim Taipalus

Whiting, Ind. – September 7, 2013 – Northwest Indiana Oilmen Team President Don Popravak has announced that General Manager Jim Taipalus has left the team to pursue other interests, effective immediately.

“We wish Jim well in his next endeavor wherever that leads him,” Popravak said.  “The Oilmen will begin an extensive search for their next General Manager shortly.”

Popravak believes that the City of Whiting’s development through its Stadium District Plan will help the team attract a qualified individual to fill the position.  The Chicago Baseball Museum, the National Mascot Hall of Fame, redevelopment of the lake front park, a new hotel, new multi housing units and new restaurants are all included in the Stadium District Plan.  Popravak said the team is seeking an individual who can work with the city and local businesses to create a fun atmosphere at Oil City Stadium on a nightly basis.

“Fun is good, and that’s what our fans deserve,” Popravak said.  “Oil City Stadium has one of the most iconic backdrops in all of baseball, with the BP Oil Refinery beyond its center field and right field walls.  The refinery lights up the night sky; it’s a very impressive sight to see.”
