Northwest Indiana Oilmen Continue To Struggle But Get Win

The Northwest Indiana Oilmen (16-11) returned to old form by pulling off a come from behind 8-6 win against the Southland Vikings (11-14). The Oilmen got on the scoreboard early, but a six run Viking third erased their lead.  The Vikings big third inning started off with Damon Saunders reaching on a throwing error by Oilmen Cody Dykema. Saunders would later score the Vikings first run of the game.

Trailing by four in the seventh, the Oilmen got back to back to back doubles by John Loeffler, Cody Dykema, and Chris Rudenga to go ahead by one. In four at bats Rudenga had two extra-base hits, just missing a homerun on a long drive that ended up bouncing off the left field wall.

Joshua Negele allowed six runs over seven innings; two earned, but still recorded the victory, his third of the season. Negele struck out two, walked one and gave up ten hits. The Southland Vikings had no answer for Jack Cinoman, coming on in the eighth in relief of Negele, holding the Southland Vikings hitless over two innings. Cinoman picked up his second save of the season, allowing no earned runs, no walks, and striking out two. Charlie Naso (2-1) took the loss, lasting just two-thirds of an inning, walking one, striking out none, and allowing five runs.

The Oilmen go on a three game road trip to close out the first half of the season.  Next week they are off for the All-Star break, returning to action against the Illinois Lincolns on July 14th, at 6:10 PM.
