Northwest Indiana native Ron Kittle, the 1983 MLB Rookie of the Year with the Chicago White Sox, and a co-owner of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen is also the founder of the Indiana Sports Charities. Founded in 1989 by Kittle and with the continued help of a driven volunteer staff, Indiana Sports Charities is dedicated to assisting cancer research facilities and education institutions in the Chicagoland area including Northwest Indiana.
