Whiting, Ind. – May 8, 2021 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen added eight to the 2021 roster on Saturday as the team continued to unveil the group that will compete during the franchise’s 10th anniversary season.

The Oilmen have welcomed infielders James Harris (UIC / Chicago, Ill.), Kevin McCormick (Evansville/ Orland Park, Ill.), Brendan Carrane (Saint Louis / Chicago, Ill.), Mike Carey (John A. Logan / Tinley Park, Ill.), Anthony Fumagalli (Purdue Northwest / Plainfield, Ill.) and Gallien Coupet (Creighton / Flossmoor, Ill.) to the team. In addition, the squad has added infielder/outfielders Jimmy Carey (St. Charles / Tinley Park, Ill.) and AJ Wright (Northwood / Griffith, Ind.).

Wright played in 15 games with the Joliet Generals last season and compiled a .244 batting average and .404 on-base percentage. He is the younger brother of former Oilmen outfielder Amir Wright. AJ also spent the 2019 campaign in the MCL, when he saw action in 14 games for the Southland Vikings. A redshirt freshman at Northwood University, Wright is a Northwest Indiana native and product of Griffith High School.

Speaking of family members of former Oilmen players, Coupet’s older cousin Isaiah is a pitcher at Ohio State and was a member of the Oilmen during the 2020 campaign. Coupet is a senior at Homewood-Flossmoor High School and is poised to join Creighton’s program next season. He is the fourth ranked shortstop in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report and has been mentored throughout his career by MLB veteran Lou Collier. He was a participant in the 2019 PBR Futures Game.

Mike Carey has appeared in 15 games at John A. Logan this spring as a COVID sophomore. A freshman at St. Charles CC, Jimmy Carey is hitting .275 over 14 games with eight RBIs and seven runs scored. Both are products of Andrew High School.

Fumagalli is currently at Purdue Northwest after prior collegiate stops at Central College and the College of DuPage. At CoD, he hit .361 and was named first team all-conference. As a senior at Plainfield North High School, Fumagalli hit .315 and was part of a regional championship team. He owns a .265 batting average with seven RBIs over 16 games (15 starts) for the Pride this spring.

Harris is a freshman at UIC in the Horizon League after previously attending Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep. McCormick helped St. Laurence High School reach the 2019 state championship by starting the playoffs 8-for-9 with seven RBIs. He has signed to continue his career at Evansville in the Missouri Valley Conference after he wraps up his prep tenure this year.

Carrane is a COVID freshman at Saint Louis and did not see action during the shortened 2020 season. The left-handed hitting infielder batted .423 as a sophomore on varsity at St. Rita before posting a .410 average as a junior and hitting .333 as a senior. He helped his team place third at state in 2019. He has seen action in four games this year for the Billikens, who are members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Carrane is expected to join the Oilmen midway through the 2021 season.
