Whiting, Ind. – July 2, 2023 – In game one of a doubleheader at Brian Jennings Field in Griffith, Ind., the Northwest Indiana Oilmen found offense often. The Oilmen beat the Griffith Generals in game one 7-2 and lost game two 2-1.

The Oilmen won game one 8-2 with strong hitting all around. Cain Headrick had a good day going 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Headrick had a big two-run double in the fourth to put the Oilmen up 5-1. Randy Seymour and Graham Mastros both had two-run doubles as well. The pair also went 2-for-4, respectively. Graham Mastros stayed hot in game two, but it wasn’t enough for the Oilmen to win. Mastros went 2-for-3 with an RBI which was the only run scored for the Oilmen in game two.

“It’s always easier to hit when the suns out and when the temperature is still high,” manager Adam Enright said. “The ball during the day will fly a little bit better so a ball that isn’t hit well can become extra bases,”

Pitching stayed strong through both games of the doubleheader. In game one Silas Noe started and went four innings while striking out one. Noe allowed two runs on three hits. Zach Kwasny finished off the last three innings. Kwansy struck out four and allowed no runs on three hits. In game two, Victor David Rodriguez started the game. Rodriguez walked four and struck out three through two innings of no-run ball. Argenis Bravo finished the game for the Oilmen. Bravo allowed one run on no hits. He walked three and struck out three as well.

With the Game 1, win, the Oilmen clinched a winning season for the 12th consecutive year.

“Year in and year out we are still one of the most talented teams in the league,” Enright said.

The Oilmen move  to 27-21 and will look for a win against the Indiana Panthers at Highland High School on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
