Ryan Zimmerman

Intern/Crestwood Panthers

Ryan joins the Panthers this summer after finishing his sophomore year at the University of California, Berkeley.

At school, he is pursuing a degree in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Spanish.  He was born and raised in Chicago, IL and is a graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratory High School.

As a freshman, Ryan joined the sports department of 90.7 FM KALX Berkeley, the University of California and listener-supported radio station.

There, he works as a play-by-play announcer and color commentator for Golden Bears football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball games.

In addition to his gameday responsibilities, he also participates as a host and panelist on Bear Talk, KALX’s weekly radio show dedicated to Cal and Bay Area sports.

In the fall he will serve as the Assistant Director of Sports Programming.

Throughout high school, Ryan was an active member of his school’s Jewish Student’s Association and became a board member during his junior year.

Some of his duties included organizing his school’s biannual Holocaust Memorial Assembly, which was attended by over 1,000 students and faculty, and being the main contact for JSA between the high school student body and faculty and other outside organizations.

Ryan is very excited to accrue valuable, real-world experience by joining the Panthers’ broadcasting crew.  He is looking forward to learn more about the ins and outs of sports broadcasting through working in the sport he is most passionate about.
