Brandon Vickrey has been a part of the Oilmen communications and broadcasting team since the team's inaugral season of 2012. The 2023 Oilmen season marks Vickrey's 12th with the team.
He was promoted to the team's Director of Communications on Aug. 14, 2013, then returned to that role on Aug. 22, 2017 after a one-year hiatus. Vickrey’s role includes play-by-play broadcasting, coordinating all aspects of the broadcast product, media relations, compiling game notes, writing press releases and daily game stories, coordinating the team's social media networks, supervising the team's official scorer and statistician and overseeing a group of interns. Vickrey also oversees all aspects of the team's communication efforts and assists in other areas of the organization as needed.
Vickrey has helped generate increased Oilmen coverage the local newspapers and regularly appears on local radio shows to talk Oilmen baseball. In addition, Vickrey is the primary media contact for the Northern League.
Vickrey has been a part of the Oilmen organization since the team’s inaugural season, serving as a broadcasting and media relations intern in 2012 and 2013 before being promoted to his current position prior to the 2014 season.
In addition to his duties with the Oilmen, Vickrey works full time at Division-I Valparaiso University as an Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications. He is the primary media contact for Valpo football, men’s basketball, baseball, men’s golf, women's golf, women’s tennis, track & field and cross country.
Vickrey is a graduate of Portage High School and Valparaiso University, where he earned both his undergraduate degree in communication and his master's in sports administration. He has also served a freelance sports reporter for the Post-Tribune newspaper, producer and update anchor for 89.1 FM The Lakeshore and coverage team member and editor for Ideas in Motion Media, a network that includes ValpoLife.com and PortageLife.com.
