Charlie Schmidgall joins the Oilmen as a broadcaster for the 2024 season, his first year with the team.
Schmidgall previously has worked in a variety of broadcasting roles. Charlie spent last summer as the broadcaster for the Lafayette Aviators of the Prospect League. Schmidgall has spent the last three years broadcasting for the Purdue Boilermakers on B1G+, including play-by-play and analyst duties for baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and swimming and diving. Charlie has also worked as a broadcaster with JedTV, covering PNW, IUN, and CCSJ athletics as needed. Schmidgall previously also performed radio duties for Pioneer High School football and basketball for Hoosier Country 103.7 in Royal Center, Indiana.
Schmidgall’s passion is the game of baseball and broadcasting it. He loves the use of advanced statistics in the game. Whether it is his Chicago White Sox, the movie Moneyball, or the most recent Foolish Baseball video, Charlie is always ready to talk about baseball. Schmidgall tries to share the joy of the game by informing and entertaining the audience.
Charlie returns to Northwest Indiana after graduating from Purdue University in 2024 with a degree in Selling and Sales Management. He attended Washington Township High School, where he was the public address announcer for the Senator’s 2021 State Title in baseball. Charlie will be attending the Michigan State University College of Law to pursue his Juris Doctorate in the Fall of 2024.

John Mastej joins the Oilmen as a broadcaster in 2024. John was born and raised in Highland, Indiana. His parents, Steven and Patricia, are both educators and showed John the value of hard work and education from a young age. His three older siblings; Emily, Joesph, and Nicholas have served as great role models for John both in their professional and personal lives. He attended Highland High School where he lettered in soccer and won the award for Best Mental Attitude
three years in a row. Graduating early, he first attended Moraine Valley Community College in Palos, Illinois. He then transferred to Indiana University Northwest achieving Dean’s List while graduating with degrees in Communications and Criminal Justice in 2024. While attending, he was active on campus as a leader in clubs and as role model of campus life. During the summer of 2023, John was a broadcast intern for The Joliet Slammers, he was a camera operator, in game reporter, and commentator. After college he began working for WJOB as a play-by-play commentator and radio personality. John also volunteers for several charitable organizations, including a group which builds handicap ramps for the underprivileged. When not on air, you can find John on near a body of water, fishing.
