BPs Don Porter to Throw the First Pitch on MondayThe excitement is steadily building in Whiting as the U.S. Military All-Stars’ Red, White & Blue Tour stop at Oil City Stadium draws nearer. While the Northwest Indiana Oilmen continue preparations for what’s shaping up to be a fun-filled night of patriotism and baseball, the organization has secured the involvement of key community leaders in the action. Don Porter, Manager of BP’s Whiting Refinery, has been chosen to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the ballgame. Porter, who has close ties to the Northwest Indiana Region, returned to manage the Whiting Refinery after previously working there as a Site Operations Manager and Plant Optimization Superintendent. “BP has been played a key part in helping us bring the U.S. Military All-Stars back to Whiting,” Northwest Indiana Oilmen President Don Popravak said. “They share our commitment to veterans and have made hiring veterans a priority for their organization. This is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate that commitment to the brave men and women who have proudly served our country.” The gates open at 5:30 p.m. at Oil City Stadium with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the game between the Northwest Indiana Oilmen and U.S. Military All-Stars slated to begin at 7:10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.nwioilmen.com or at the gate. For fans who can’t make it out to Oil City Stadium, Brandon Vickrey and Will Trubshaw will have the call on the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Broadcasting Network, accessible via Facebook Live. |
