Last season at South Suburban, Austgen had a solid season hitting .286 with 34 hits, driving in 17 RBIs, and scoring 27 runs in 38 games. South Suburban head baseball coach Steve Ruzich, had the following to say about the young infielder: Craig is a gifted athlete with a tremendous work ethic. A versatile middle infielder with great hands
Austgen was raised in Lowell, Indiana and attended Lowell High School before committing to South Suburban College. While at Lowell, he was selected to the All-Area team as a shortstop and had the top batting average in the area. Look for Austgen to have a productive season this year for the Oilmen both offensive and defensively.
