Steensen Sublime in NWI’s Third Straight W
Akron right-hander Michael Steensen came into the game with an ERA of 1.38 in his first two starts, but topped that with ease against the Chicago Zephyrs on Friday night, giving the Oilmen a complete-game, five-hit shutout in an eventual 9-0 victory at Oil City Stadium.

Steensen’s gem included no extra-base hits or walks, as he struck out seven batters while throwing just 95 pitches in the game to get his second win of the year.

The offense struck for two quick runs in the bottom of the first to give the Oilmen a lead they would never relinquish. NWI then scored seven runs in their final two turns at-bat to put the game away comfortably.

Every Oilmen batter had at least one hit in the game, including substitute Gerrad Rohan. Rashawn Tillman led the charge, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Nick Bartolone also continued his torrid start, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Both players also had doubles in the win.

Going Streaking
The Oilmen have now won six of their last seven games overall. They have also tied their season-best winning streak with three in a row, out-scoring Rockford and Chicago by a combined score of 33-2 in that span. The winning streak has vaulted the Oilmen into a tie for first place in the current MCL standings with the Lexington Snipes.

They have also raised their team batting average in the last three games by 62 points to an even .300, the best mark in the MCL. Their team ERA has also fallen to 2.33, down almost a full run from where it was heading into Tuesday’s contest, ranking second in the league.
