Oilmen Score Five in Eighth to Down Snipes
What started off as a pitcher’s duel turned into the exact opposite in the late innings on Wednesday night at Oil City Stadium, as the Oilmen broke a 5-5 tie with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to knock off Lexington and move into a tie for first place.
Jack Czeszewski led six Oilmen with multiple hits in going 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Rashawn Tillman went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, including the game-winning single in the eighth.
Mike Hanchar pitched well in his first start of the year for NWI, going five and one-third innings and giving up only one earned run. Matt Pobereyko got his second win in as many nights in relief.
“Mr. Base-on-Balls”
In addition to his three hits and RBI last night, Jack Czeszewski also drew two more walks, raising his MCL-leading total to 16. The patient outfielder now has multiple walks in three straight games as well as four of his last five games played.
Like a Freight Train...
...passing by Oil City Stadium at night, the Oilmen offense cannot be stopped. Last night, NWI scored double-digit runs for the fifth time in the last seven games. They have scored seven or more runs in six of those seven, and have gotten 10 or more hits in five of those contests.
Alone at the Top?
With a win tonight, the Oilmen have a chance to claim first place outright in the MCL for the first time this season if DuPage County also loses to Rockford at home.
