Iwinski Honored as MCL Pitcher of the Week07/27/2020 9:18 AM - Whiting, Ind. – July 27, 2020 – After highlighting a four-game stretch where Northwest Indiana Oilmen starting pitchers combined for 27 strikeouts and no walks, right hander Kyle Iwinski (Kankakee CC / Griffith, Ind.) was tabbed MCL Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Iwinski hurled seven innings without allowing an earned run to record the victory on Friday night against the MCL Minutemen, permitting just two hits and walking none while notching 10 strikeouts. For the season, the right hander has struck out 22 against just four walks while compiling a 1.00 ERA over four games (two starts) spanning 18 innings. Iwinski is in his second season pitching for the team after debuting in 2019 following his senior season of high school. This marks the first MCL Pitcher of the Week Award in his career and the second by a member of the Oilmen pitching staff this season as Jack Guzek received the honor a week ago. Both MCL honorees this week are Northwest Indiana locals as Iwinski was joined by Crestwood’s Ray Hilbrich (Purdue Northwest / Schererville, Ind.), who won the MCL Player of the Week Award. The Oilmen own a league-best 2.48 ERA and have won two of the three Pitcher of the Week awards this season. The team carries a 13-6 record into Monday’s game against DuPage County, which will begin at 5 p.m. at Aurora Central Catholic High School in Aurora, Ill. Andrew Fish and Tom Gorski will have the call on the Oilmen Broadcasting Network, which is available via Facebook Live. The Oilmen enter the day ½ game behind the Hounds for the top spot in the MCL standings. 2020 Player of the Week Award Winners July 13 – Justin Rios, Southland July 20 – Patrick Doran, Minutemen July 27 – Ray Hilbrich, Crestwood 2020 Pitcher of the Week Award Winners July 13 – Jake Karaba, Southland July 20 – Jack Guzek, NWI July 27 – Kyle Iwinski, NWI |
