MCL Announces Single-Site Playoff Plans07/27/2021 3:48 PM - Whiting, Ind. – July 27, 2021 – For the first time in the 12-year history of the Midwest Collegiate League, the MCL Playoffs will take place at a single site. Oil City Stadium in Whiting will be home to all games during the 2021 MCL Playoffs, which will be held from Aug. 10-15 with the top four teams from the regular-season standings vying for the league title. The No. 1 seed will take on the No. 4 seed in a best-of-three semifinal series, while the No. 2 seed will match up with the No. 3 seed. The semifinal series that does not involve the host Northwest Indiana Oilmen will have Game 1 on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 4:10 p.m. and Game 2 on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 4:10 p.m. The series that does involve the host Oilmen will have Game 1 on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at either 7:40 p.m. or 30 minutes following the completion of the previous game, whichever is later. That series will have Game 2 on Wednesday, Aug. 11, also at 7:40 p.m. or 30 minutes following the completion of the previous game, whichever is later. If both series require a third game, the same time schedule will be used on Thursday, Aug. 12. If only one series goes to a third game, that game’s start time would shift to 7:10 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal series will face off in the championship series on Friday, Aug. 13 at 7:10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7:10 p.m. and if necessary Sunday, Aug. 15 at 5:10 p.m. For all MCL Playoff series, the better seed will be the “home” team and bat last in Game 1 and Game 3, while the worse seed will be the “home” team and bat last in Game 2. Tickets will be available for all days of the event at the stadium box office prior to each game. The semifinal series involving the Oilmen, the Thursday 7:10 p.m. game if only one semifinal series goes to a third game and the MCL Championship series will be broadcast on AM 1230 WJOB and JED-TV, the official broadcast partner of the Oilmen. Brandon Vickrey (play-by-play) and Leo Staudacher (analyst) will have the call for the semifinal series involving the Oilmen, while Jon Zaghloul (play-by-play) and Jack Theil (analyst) will call the other semifinal series.
