Baker Named Northern League Player of the Week06/27/2022 7:57 AM - Chicago, Ill. – June 27, 2022 – The Northern League has announced its weekly awards for this past week, as Chris Baker (Trinity Christian / South Holland, Ill.) of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen has been named the league’s Player of the Week and Max Everaert (Calumet College of St. Joseph / Hebron) of the Southland Vikings has earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Baker became the first unanimous Player of the Week choice this season by hitting a robust .750 (12-for-16) over four games while driving in seven runs, recording two doubles and ripping a triple in addition to drawing three walks and slugging 1.000. Baker had four hits in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday vs. Joliet before tying an Oilmen record with five hits in Thursday’s win over the Chicago American Giants. For the season, Baker sits fourth in the league with a .387 batting average while also ranking among the league leaders in doubles (8, t-1st), RBIs (15, t-2nd), walks (14, t-8th) and runs scored (18, 6th). Everaert was the winning pitcher in Monday’s Viking victory over the Oilmen by logging seven shutout innings to help his team to a 2-0 triumph. He yielded just three hits while striking out eight and walking two.
