Whiting, Ind. – May 25, 2023 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen have announced the professional pitchers to be a part of the 2023 roster.
Connor Spear is a right-handed pitcher who played for the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League last season.
Spear, who played for the Oilmen during the 2018 season, had some great things to say about the team and his return to the Oilmen. Spear spoke on the fact that the Northern League is a great summer league and “helps players to develop more so than other summer leagues.” Spear loved the fact that the Oilmen play close to home, so he could be around family for the summer. He also accounted for how great Oil City Stadium and its atmosphere are. Spear had a special message about his return to Oil City Stadium: “If you’re going to play for any team, play for the Oilmen”.
Steven Washilewski is a left-handed pitcher who played for the Joliet Slammers.
Prior to playing with the Slammers, he was a part of the Windy City ThunderBolts, both of which are in the Frontier League. Washilewski previously played in the Coastal Plains League in North Carolina where his team won the league championship. Washilewski said he has high hopes that he will be able to “spread my wisdom to the younger guys.” Washilewski had optimism that the Oilmen could continue their winning ways and that “hopefully I can get another ring this summer.”
Antonio Saldana is a left-handed pitcher who played for the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League last season.
Saldana is hopeful he can regain his momentum and get back to professional baseball. Saldana believes that his time with the Thunderbolts was an “eye opener and I didn’t give those guys enough credit.” Saldana is optimistic that this summer with the Oilmen will be the time to “work on my craft.” Saldana mentioned that this summer with the Oilmen feels like a new chance for him, and that it's good to be back in the sport that he loves.
