Oilmen start homestand strong with second winWhiting, Ind. – June 21, 2023 – Tyler Laux had a great performance on the mound as the Northwest Indiana Oilmen beat the Elkhart County Miracle 6-2 on Tuesday night at Oil City Stadium. Laux showed early in the game that runs would be hard to come by for the Miracle. He faxed the minimum batters in his first four innings of work. Laux would finish with a line of seven hits, two runs, two walks and three strikeouts as he went on to throw a complete game for the Oilmen. Laux’s strong performance on the mound is the first complete game for the Oilmen this season. “The plan was to either let him have two base runners or by the time he hit 100, the next hitter he would be done,” manager Adam Enright said. “He battled back from some adverse counts with very competitive pitches.” Randy Seymour had a great display early in the game at shortstop. Seymour made a great grab on a ball that looked like a base knock and made a powerful throw to first for the double play. Seymour also had a breakout performance in the batter’s box. In the Oilmen's three-run third, Seymour went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. “He’s a very good defender, because he is long and athletic, he just does a good job of finding the pocket on every hop,” Enright said. “It’s been fun to watch him figure some things out at the plate as well with some really well-hit balls deep,” The Oilmen improve to 11-6 and are now 9-1 at Oil City Stadium. The Oilmen face the top team in the Northern League, the Lake County Corn Dogs, on Thursday. Oilmen will look to win another in a season series that is 3-1 in favor of the Corndogs. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. |
