Oilmen lose in seven innings to GeneralsGriffith, Ind. – July 3, 2023 – Northwest Indiana Oilmen pitching had a rough time finding the strike zone in an 11-1, seven-inning loss, to the Griffith Generals at Brian Jennings Field in Griffith, Ind. on Monday. RJ Bergren started the game for the Oilmen and worked three innings while walking two and giving up six runs, only two of which were earned. Connor Collins pitched the fourth inning in place of Bergren. Collins walked three and gave up four runs on three hits. Ryan Radanovich finished the last two innings. He walked two and allowed one run on two hits. “You don’t want to run the pitchers who are doing really well for you into the ground,” manager Adam Enright said. “The silver lining is that everybody who was here and available got to play. That’s what it’s all about. The wins are nice, but it’s good for these guys to get opportunities to pitch.” Pitching wasn’t the only thing missing from the Oilmen performance. The Oilmen tallied only three hits to the Generals’ 11. Brennan Phillips had the only RBI after he hit a single in the sixth inning. Ryan Little showed patience at the plate. He walked twice in a game that saw 15 walks between both teams. “We just missed a bunch of pretty good pitches and hit a bunch of fly balls,” Enright said. “They got out to a pretty early lead, and it just knocks the wind out of you.” The Oilmen fall to 19-9 and will get a much-needed break for the 4th of July. Oilmen will be back in action on July 5 against the Generals at Oil City Stadium. First pitch will be thrown out at 7:10 pm. |
