Oilmen Fall In Extras vs Generals07/13/2023 10:46 PM - On Thirsty Thursday at Oil City Stadium, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen and the Griffith Generals fought until the 11th inning. A game with great outings from both starting pitchers ended in a dramatic extra-inning finish. The Oilmen lost in 11 innings on Thursday 6-3 to Griffith. The Oilmen held a narrow 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the eighth, and added two more to take a 3-0 lead entering the ninth, thanks to a Logan Anderson double. However, while the Generals were held scoreless through eight, their offense pieced together a three-run ninth on just two hits, sending the game to extras. Despite the loss, Logan Anderson came up big offensively, going 3-for-4, including two hits off the “Brick Monster” in left field. “He [Anderson] got good pitches to hit, and he looks to pull the ball,” Oilmen Manager Adam Enright said. “When he’s in counts where there's not a job to do, or he’s not protecting on two- strike counts, he looks to do damage to his pull-side.” Thursday’s home defeat to the last-place Griffith Generals is the third straight head-to-head loss, and gives the Oilmen a 4-6 record in the past 10 games. Oilmen starter Tyler Laux had an excellent outing, going seven innings of shutout ball while striking out eight and allowing three hits. “He’s [Laux] throwing the off-speed pitch with intent to make it look like a fastball,” Enright said. “I think both pitches will play at a higher level now that he’s got some innings under his belt.” With the game tied 3-3 heading to the 11th, the Generals capitalized on Oilmen pitcher Ryan Little, drawing three walks and taking the 6-3 lead. The Oilmen saw their record fall to 22-13 and will host a rematch against the Generals on Friday, July 14 at Oil City Stadium with a 7:10 p.m. first pitch.
