History For the Oilmen! Win Streak Extends to 9 Games

06/15/2024 1:01 PM -

The Northwest Indiana Oilmen defeated the Griffith Generals 7-3 on Friday, bringing their record to 9-0. This 9-game win streak is the first time the Oilmen have won 9 games in a row in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 9 in the previous campaign, per superfan Mike Jones. The historic moment came after a long battle in a tough game.

The Oilmen jumped out to the lead in the top of the third inning after an error scored one run, Ryan Groberski doubled, scoring two runs, Troy Vosburgh doubled, scoring two runs, and Ethan Ganz doubled, scoring one run.

RJ Bergren earned the win for the Oilmen. They gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Ian Clark took the loss for Generals. The right-handed pitcher went three innings, giving up six runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out five and walking none. Cole Deardorff collected the save.

Emmanuel Scott and Ethan Ganz each collected two hits for the Oilmen, with Ethan Ganz getting two doubles. Vosburgh and Groberski were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Oilmen. The Oilmen turned one double play in the game.

Cole Hockman and Yashion Boswell were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Griffith Generals. Jaime Luna led the Griffith Generals offensively with two hits in four at bats. Connor Jerkatis used his keen eye to boost the Griffith Generals with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. The Generals turned one double play in the game.

Ethan Ganz was selected as the White Castle player of the game following a 2-4 game with two doubles. Ganz collected an RBI as well. This was Ganz's first time hitting with the team, and he made an immediate impact on the squad. The middle-infielder will be a great addition through the season.

Tyler Zunkel was available for comment after the record-setting 9th win in a row for the Oilmen. "It feels great, our guys really came to play today. We only had 10 guys, one got hurt, so we really only had 9 guys total. We got some hits, took advantage of some errors, and it worked out for us". Being short on guys led to some pitchers both hitting and playing in the field, and the flexibility of the team was greatly appreciated by Tyler. "We have some guys who play all over the place that make it possible. We were able to move Johnny Wendling to the outfield, AJ Taylor is an absolute stud moving from center to shortstop, and it's great to have guys with that sort of versitility because if you're a good ball player you can play anywhere". Being shorthanded didn't effect the squad one bit, and everyone was ready to step up. "They were ready. I sent a message into our chat that we only had 8 hitters and that pitchers might have to hit for themselves, so they really stepped up took that challenge on. Those extra at-bats are definitely good for our guys, not going to hurt them to play more ball".

Next up for Northwest Indiana Oilmen is a rematch against the Generals in Griffith at 7pm. The game is available to be watched on Facebook, X, JedTV, and Region Sports Network.
