Oilmen's Big Inning Leads to Run Rule Win

Ryan Henschel drove in four runs on three hits to lead tNorthwest Indiana Oilmen past Griffith Generals 13-2 on Friday. Henschel doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring two.

The Oilmen scored 12 runs in the fifth inning on the way to victory.  Aidan Thaxton was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Henschel doubled, scoring two runs, Jalen House singled, scoring one run, AJ Taylor singled, scoring one run, Emmanuel Scott singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Ian Clark induced Jake LaVine to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Henschel singled, scoring two runs, House singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

The Griffith Generals opened the scoring in the third after Jaime Luna grounded out, scoring two runs.

RJ Bergren led things off on the hill for the Oilmen. They gave up four hits and two runs (zero earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking five. Justin Schassburger started on the bump for the Griffith Generals. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and 10 runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking three. Cole Deardorff tossed one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball for the Oilmen in relief. The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.

The Oilmen collected 10 hits in the game. The Oilmen turned one double play in the game.

The Griffith Generals's Schassburger made the most of their chances at the plate. The number nine hitter led the team with two hits in three at bats.

Ryan Henschel earned back-to-back White Castle Players of the game.  Henschel went 3-3 with two doubles and brought in 4 RBI. He had two hits in the big 5th inning.

The manager of the Oilmen Tyler Zunkel shared his thoughts postgame. "Baseball is a funny sport, usually the team who wins either scores first or has a big inning, and today we had the big inning". Zunkel also shared how the maturity of his team has impressed him. "They don't argue with the umpires, they know there are some bad calls but they let it roll off. They're a very mature group". He also shared how important it was to get back on track. "It was great to see us go out there and take some swings after not being aggressive enough through the first few innings. Just glad to be back in the win column"

The Oilmen play at home on Saturday against the Hammond Vikings in their next game, a bark in the park promotional night at 7:10pm. Fans can bring their dogs and get an Oilmen bandana.
