Oilmen Take Down Vikings

06/23/2024 11:00 AM -

The Oilmen easily handled the Hammond Vikings on Saturday, 8-2.

The Oilmen got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after James Denten singled, scoring two runs, and Emmanuel Scott doubled, scoring one run.

The Oilmen added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Zamaurion Hatcher singled, and Troy Vosburgh doubled, each scoring one run.

Ryan Sigale began the game for the Oilmen. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over six innings, striking out three and walking three. Trey Pitcock started the game for the Hammond Vikings. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking three. Kam Couch appeared in relief for the Oilmen.

The Oilmen amassed 10 hits in the game. Emmanuel Scott went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the squad in hits. Troy Vosburgh, Johnny Wendling, Mason List, Hatcher, Scott, and James Denten each drove in one run for the Oilmen. Quinn Flanagan collected two hits for the Oilmen in five at bats.

Jacob Gunn, Owen Bendis, Zachary Norwine, and Miles Cvelbar each collected one hit for the Hammond Vikings. Owen Bendis and Maurey Garrett each drove in one run for the Hammond Vikings.

The White Castle player of the game was awarded to Emmanuel Scott after a great performance. The backstop for the Oilmen put together a 3-5 day with two doubles and an RBI. Scott set the tone for the Oilmen in a dominating win.

Tyler Zunkel was happy to see the team win its second in a row, in large part thanks to quality pitching from Ryan Sigale and Kam Couch. "That's what keeps us in games. Ryan (Sigale) gave us six great innings, and he probably could have given us more but I wanted to see what Kam Couch could bring to the squad. Both did really well, they just controlled the zone and didn't allow those walks, which made the difference". Tyler noted how successful Troy Vosburgh and Emmanuel Scott were with two doubles a piece. "It was great to have that especially with a lot of our power missing. We had a few really good bats not here today so I was glad they stepped up. Troy has been hitting the cover off of the ball, so really good to see that. Extra base hits are great and I'm glad those two stepped up big for us."

Next up for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen is a game at the Hammond Vikings on Monday. The game at Dowling Park is the second of a three game set between the sides.
