Oilmen Take On Vikings Tonight07/16/2013 2:19 PM -
TONIGHT’S GAME:
Northwest Indiana Oilmen (20-9, 14-8)
vs Southland Vikings (13-11)
NWI Splits With Snipes
After beating Rockford twice in their doubleheader at home on Saturday, NWI headed out on the road to face Lexington on Sunday, and came away with a split, dropping the first game 1-0, but rebounding in the second game by winning 5-2.
In Game 1, the offense couldn’t get started as Lexington pitcher Jacob Hendren was locked in, tossing a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts. The 1-0 loss was the first time all season that the Oilmen were shut out
Michael Steensen (2-1) also threw a complete game for NWI, and only gave up four hits, but one of those hits was a solo home run, as he took a hard-luck loss despite throwing over two-thirds of his 67 pitches for strikes. The game took just over an hour to complete with both pitchers dealing.
In Game 2, it was Joe Cochran (3-1) that did the dealing for NWI, and he too tossed a complete game, fanning five as the offense backed him early in the 5-2 win.
Rashawn Tillman, Tyler Baar and Craig Austgen each scored a run and drove in a run in the win, which ensured that the Oilmen remained in second place entering play on Monday.
Last Time Through
The Oilmen face off in against the Southland Vikings tonight, marking the last time that the teams will face each other in the 2013 regular season. Southland currently sits in fourth place, 2 games back of second-place NWI.
