Oilmen Surrender Seven-Run Seventh Inning in Loss
The Oilmen and Chicago Zephyrs were riding their starters through the first six innings, with Christopher Anderson and Andy Wellwerts both giving up only one run.
But the Oilmen blinked first, and the Zephyrs ended up knocking Wellwerts (3-2) around for six runs in the seventh en route to an eventual 8-1 win. The final run in the inning came against Nik Mason.
Both starters struck out nine opposing batters in the game, as the Zephyrs won just their fourth game of the season. The loss marks the first time that the Oilmen lost to a team outside the current top four in the MCL standings this season.
Turning Over A New Leiff
Leiff Clarkson had two hits in last night’s game, the only Oilmen with more than one. That extended his hitting streak to 12 games in a row, the longest hitting streak of any NWI hitter this season.
NWI Out For Revenge As DuPage Comes To Town
The Oilmen are facing a Hounds squad that has won five games in a row in league play to vault into first place in the MCL. NWI now sits 3.5 games back, and can get as close as 1.5 games with a sweep.
The last meeting between the two clubs ended up being the longest game in Oilmen franchise history, won by the Hounds 13-12 in 15 innings, and lasting just over five hours.
The teams will only meet up once more in 2013 after today, on Sunday, June 28 at DuPage, to close the MCL regular season.
