Whiting, Ind. – September 19, 2013 – The Midwest Collegiate League has released final attendance figures for the 2013 season.  The league drew a total of 34,115 fans to the 104 MCL games that were played over the course of the summer, an average of 328 attendees per game.

Despite having many early-season games washed out by a cold and wet May and early June, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen led the league in total attendance at 15,060, while the DuPage County Hounds ranked first in the MCL in average attendance at 601.  An average of 579 fans attended each game at Oil City Stadium this summer.  The Hounds drew 12,015 total fans to Benedictine Stadium in Lisle, Ill.

The league-champion Southland Vikings ranked third in league attendance with 3,818 fans over 20 home dates, an average of 191 attendees per game.  The Lexington Snipes averaged 89 fans per game in their first year in the league, while the Chicago Zephyrs averaged 81 attendees per home date.  The league’s sixth team, the Rockford Foresters, played all road games this season.

The highest attendance for an Oilmen game this season came on July 1, when 1,448 fans saw the Oilmen take on the U.S. Military All-Stars in a special exhibition game.  A single-game attendance figure reached four digits on one other occasion when 1,321 attendees turned out for the Oilmen game against Lexington on June 27.

The Northwest Indiana Oilmen are preparing for their third season in the Midwest Collegiate League.

“We have the best fans in the world,” Oilmen President Don Popravak said.  “They have given us great support over the two seasons of our existence and many have offered us great feedback and ideas to continue our growth.”

According to Popravak, the Oilmen are planning their promotional schedule for the 2014 season.

“It will be driven by a Fun is Good mission,” he said.  “We want our fans to come out to Oil City Stadium and put their worries behind them and just have fun with their families.”

The Oilmen play their home games at Oil City Stadium, located on 119th Street in downtown Whiting.
