Oilmen Add Three Games Against Michigan City

01/10/2014 6:39 PM -

Whiting, Ind. – January 10, 2013 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen have added three nonleague games with the Michigan City Lakers to their schedule for the 2014 season.  The three dates with the Lakers lift the total number of games scheduled to 45, with the team expected to announce several other nonleague contests.

The Oilmen host Michigan City on June 6 and June 17 with both matchups slated to begin at 7:10 p.m.  NWI will make one visit to Michigan City, which will play its home games at Purdue North Central this season, on June 7 at 1 p.m.

“Our guys are really excited about it,” Lakers manager Tim Jahnz said.  “We were really competitive with the Oilmen last year.  They have pitchers that can throw strikes in the upper 80s and low 90s consistently with an off-speed pitch.  It’s just a better caliber of baseball that inspired our guys to work harder and get better.”

While the Oilmen will trot out three returnees from 2013, the bulk of the Michigan City roster remains unchanged.  The Lakers will have all but four of their 2013 players back this summer.

The Oilmen and Lakers met for the first time in 2013, with NWI capturing five of the seven matchups.

“We’re just really excited to have the opportunity to get out and share the field with the Oilmen and put on a good show,” Jahnz said.
