Oilman Stan Attends Youth Basketball Game02/09/2014 5:17 PM - Schererville, Ind. – February 9, 2013 – Northwest Indiana Oilmen mascot Oilman Stan made an appearance at Homan Elementary School in Schererville for a youth basketball game on Sunday afternoon. With baseball season still several months off, Stan tried to make the gymnasium feel like Oil City Stadium by taking his usual midsummer antics indoors. Stan helped cheer on the Thunder players, who were playing against the Pacers in their final game of the season. Stan assisted the players in delivering roses and candy to their parents and family members in the stands as the team showed its appreciation for its supporters. “Having Stan here put so much fun and enthusiasm into the kids,” Thunder coach Michael Dean Cope said. “Our team struggled this year. When I took this job, they said to make sure the kids had fun. Stan made the end of the year the grand finale.” As Cope handed out trophies to his team following the game, Stan sneaked up behind him and delivered a whipped cream pie squarely into Cope’s face as the Thunder players burst into laughter. Oilman Stan will be putting smiles on the faces of kids at Oil City Stadium for the third straight summer beginning on Thursday, May 27, when the Oilmen open the season against the Southland Vikings. |
