For Starters
The Northwest Indiana Oilmen have won six consecutive games with their most recent loss coming on June 6 against Michigan City. A win on Wednesday night over Southland would establish a new Oilmen franchise record for most consecutive wins. The Oilmen previously won six straight in June 2012. A seven-game winning streak would also tie a Midwest Collegiate League record, a mark set by the Rockford Foresters in 2011, the Will County CrackerJacks in 2012 and the DuPage County Hounds in 2014.

Inside the Oilmen
The Oilmen defeated the Michigan City Lakers 5-3 on Tuesday night to push the winning streak to six. Valparaiso University’s Scott Jerge made his first start of the season and the third of his Oilmen career, tossing three scoreless innings.  Jerge has not allowed an earned run in 9 2/3 innings this season. Kankakee Valley graduate Andrew Jackson picked up the first win of his Oilmen career, tossing two shutout frames in relief. Anthony Gomez nailed downed his first save as the Lakers stranded the tying run at second and go-ahead run at first in the ninth. Jason Gasser returned to the Oilmen lineup on Tuesday after missing three games with a minor knee injury. He reached base twice with two walks and a two-run single. Ryan Burvan, one of four players on the team hitting over .300, dropped to the No. 7 spot in the order and went 1-for-4. Nick Vogelmeier moved to the leadoff spot and drew three bases on balls.

Inside the Vikings
The Southland Vikings hold a winning streak of their own, having rapped off three straight since falling 5-4 to the Oilmen on Thursday. The Vikings knocked off the DuPage County Hounds 10-7 on Friday night before defeating the Joliet Admirals on Saturday and Monday. The Vikings and Oilmen have several players who have played together in high school or college: Kevin DeFilippis and Dan Potempa (Providence Central Catholic High School), Chase Fieldhouse, Ryan Burvan, Jimmy McNamara and Aaron Glatt (Lake Central High School), Chris Sujka and Craig Dedelow (Indiana University), Brandon White and Cameron Linck (Hill College), Mike Poulos, Anthony Spangler, Zac Miller, Micah Rooke and Anthony Colosimo (Purdue Calumet) and Jason Gasser and Chris Sujka (Mount Carmel).

About the Matchup
The Oilmen lead the season series with the Vikings two games to none and have split the all-time set right down the middle, 12-12. Jimmy McNamara has started both prior games against the Vikings this season, earning the win in both instances. McNamara is expected to oppose the Vikings again on Wednesday.

Around the League
The Oilmen chase the DuPage County Hounds by 1.5 games in the league standings. The Hounds play the Lexington Snipes on Wednesday night.
