Whiting, Ind. – July 21, 2014 – Campers turned out in mass for Monday’s annual Ron Kittle Kids Camp at Oil City Stadium.

The free camp gave kids the chance to receive valuable baseball instruction from former White Sox star Ron Kittle.

“If any of your kids cry, we’re going to kick them off the field,” Kittle joked when addressing the campers and parents before the start of the camp. “There’s no crying in baseball. We’re going to have fun here today.”

All participants also received two free tickets to Wednesday’s game between the Oilmen and Southland Vikings, which is Fan Appreciation Night at Oil City Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. with the world-famous ZooperStars set to make an appearance.

The Ron Kittle Kids Camp is sponsored by BP Whiting, a proud sponsor of baseball at Oil City Stadium.

Oilmen players Cameron Linck, Nate Schneider, James Meeker, Nick Vogelmeier, Anthony Colosimo, Andrew Lowe and Danny Pobereyko were on hand to help provide baseball instruction. The ever-popular team mascot Oilman Stan roamed the stadium, taking photos and giving high-fives to adoring fans.

After the campers warmed up by playing catch with one another, they split into four groups and ran through fielding drills with instruction from Kittle and Oilmen players. Next, Kittle provided insight on how to properly lay down a bunt as the campers completed a bunt drill. Then, it was time for the future Oilmen to show off their wheels as they circled the bases of Oil City Stadium. Finally, it was time to bring out the tees for a round of batting practice.
