Northwest Indiana Oilmen Continue To Struggle07/05/2012 11:26 AM - Northwest Indiana Oilmen Continue To Struggle
The Northwest Indiana Oilmen (15-11) freefall continued, losing 4-2, to the DuPage County Hounds (14-12). During this slump, which has the Oilmen losing eight out of their last nine games, timely hitting has plagued the team as they left eleven Oilmen on base. With the loss, the Oilmen fall to third place in the MCL South division, one game behind the Illinois Lincolns who took over the top spot last night. Oilmen Joey Eichmann pitched a shutout through five innings. His only real mistake was a pitch to Gary Mayberry who racked up two RBIs on a two run blast, tying the game at two. The game remained tied until the ninth inning, when an error by the left fielder Billy Miller on a misplayed fly ball allowed the inning to continue. With two runners on, Jason Euler hit a two-run double giving the DuPage County Hounds the lead in the ninth. Brendan Delany got the win for the DuPage County Hounds. Delany pitched nine innings, allowing one earned run, seven hits and three walks while striking out seven. Oilmen Bennett Oliver got on base four times in the game, driving in one runner. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the third and ninth. Eichmann (1-2) took the loss. He lasted 8 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed four runs, two of which were earned. On Thursday, July 5th the Oilmen end their final home stand before the All-Star break as they meet the Southland Vikings. Every Thursday at Oil City Stadium is Thirsty Thursday, where drinks are half priced. OILMEN BASEBALL...THERE’S NEW ENERGY IN TOWN! |
