Walk Off Win Extends Oilmens Winning Streak to Five Games07/15/2012 12:33 PM - Walk Off Win Extends Oilmen’s Winning Streak to Five Games Just before the All-Star break, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen put together a four game winning streak, scoring fifty runs in their last three games. The Oilmen hoped to continue that offensive output as baseball returned to Whiting on Saturday night. After an hour rain delay, the Oilmen extended their winning streak to five games by knocking off the 3rd place Illinois Lincolns with a 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th. With the win, the Oilmen move back in to a first place tie with the Will County Crackerjacks. Unlike the last three games prior to the break, this game was a pitcher duel. The Lincolns got on the board in the first inning, but the Oilmen quickly countered in the bottom half of the inning when Bennett Oliver singled and later scored on an error by Lincoln third baseman Patrick Cottrell. Cody Dykema singled in the bottom of the 4th, advancing to third on a double by newcomer Kyle Wood. Dykema scored on a fielder’s choice by Billy Miller. Josh Negele pitched seven innings, striking out five and only walking three. Negele gave up ten hits but only two runs thanks largely to the incredible defensive effort from his teammates. Billy Miller and Chris Rudenga both had perfect throws from the outfield to catcher Alex Lincoln, gunning down runners at the plate. In the bottom of the 9th, Miller hit a rocket to right field, just missing a homerun, driving in Wood for the walk off win. Jack Cinoman who came on in the 8th, pitched two innings, picking up his second win. Sunday, the Oilmen take on the Chicago Zephyrs at Oil City Stadium. First pitch is at 4:10 pm.
