Whiting, Ind. – June 17, 2016 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen are honored to announce that Bishop Donald J. Hying of the Archdiocese of Gary will throw out the first pitch prior to Saturday’s game against the Southland Vikings.

The Oilmen are hosting a Saint Vincent de Paul Fundraiser with half of the ticket revenue going to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which consists of men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need.

Bishop Hying was appointed by Pope Francis as the fourth bishop of Gary on Nov. 24, 2014. A native of West Allis, Wis., Bishop Hying was ordained to the priesthood for the archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1989 and served in numerous parishes as well as La Sagrada Familia, the archdiocese’s parish in the Dominican Republic.

In addition, Bishop Hying served as dean of formation at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, where he was later appointed rector, serving there until Pope Benedict XVI named him auxiliary bishop of Milwaukee in 2011.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:20 p.m. Have fun at the ballpark and watch Bishop Hying throw out the ceremonial first pitch, all while supporting an important cause, the Society St. Vincent de Paul. Preferred seats are available for $10 and can be purchased now on using the promo code SVDP.
