Oliver will be playing ball at Purdue University in the spring before he joins the Oilmen in the summer. This 2012 season will be the first for Oliver at Purdue, who comes in as a freshman from Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas, his hometown. Oliver had a monster senior season where he batted .448 with 19 RBIs and had a .562 on-base percentage. After putting up those numbers he was named first team all-city and a second team all-conference honoree. The numbers that Oliver had put him in the top ten single-season totals at Washburn Rural in batting average, hits, and runs scored. He was named one of the area’s best players by the Topeka Capital Journal last season and the numbers he had put up certainly backed up that claim. With all that said, Oliver will be a welcome addition to the Oilmen and should be a big contributor to the team’s success this year. This inaugural season should be fun to watch with players like Oliver joining the team.
