Oilmen Boast Three on All-League Team08/28/2017 11:32 AM - Whiting, Ind. – Aug. 28, 2017 – The Northwest Oilmen had three players named to the 2017 all-Midwest Collegiate League team, which was announced on Monday. The Oilmen bullpen is well-represented, as NWI captured two of the three spots for relief pitchers, both players who will spend the 2018 season at Trinity Christian College. Richard Yelnick achieved all-league recognition after posting a 1.39 ERA in 26 innings during the summer. The left-handed New Lenox, Ill. native has been a fixture on the Oilmen pitching staff for the last three seasons. Also adding to his list of accomplishments from the summer season was Rory Gard, who was named an MCL All-Star in July and the MCL Relief Pitcher of the Year earlier this month. Gard, a native of Schererville, Ind., made 16 appearances and nailed down four saves, striking out 11 in 20 innings. He limited opponents to a .203 average and shattered the team’s ERA record with a 0.41 mark. The lone Oilmen position player on the all-league squad is outfielder Amir Wright (Saint Leo / Griffith, Ind.), who enjoyed an all-star summer campaign. He posted a slash line of .352/.484/.488, belted one home run and drove in 25. Both Gard and Wright played the 2017 spring season at Saint Joseph’s College, which closed its doors following the year. The Oilmen shared the MCL regular season title and were the No. 1 seed in the league’s playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They finished with a 34-16 record, the best in the six-year history of Oilmen baseball. 2017 MCL All-League Team C-Sean Arnold (Joliet Admirals) 1B- Brady West (Crestwood Panthers) 2B-Ben Zordani (Joliet Admirals) SS-Joe Stewart (DuPage County Hounds) 3B-Ranko Stevanovic (Joliet Admirals) OF-Tristan Welch (DuPage County Hounds) OF-Amir Wright (Northwest Indiana Oilmen) OF-Jack Butler (Bloomington Bobcats) SP- Hunter Kraynak (Southland Vikings) SP- Kevin Glynn (Southland Vikings) SP-Nick Brune (Bloomington Bobcats) RP-Mikey Rivera (Joliet Admirals) RP-Richard Yelnick (Northwest Indiana Oilmen) RP-Rory Gard (Northwest Indiana Oilmen) |
