FOR STARTERS
The Northwest Indiana Oilmen are looking to extend their biggest win streak in team history on Wednesday as the Oilmen host the Bloomington Bobcats. The Oilmen won their eighth straight which is already their longest in history on Sunday with a 9-3 victory against the Southland Vikings. The Oilmen were rained out on Tuesday at Joliet after the second inning and will be made up on July 10 as part of a doubleheader at Joliet Junior College.
INSIDE THE OILMEN
The Oilmen keep on rolling despite a shortened week with three rainouts. After the game was called in the second inning due to rain the Oilmen return home. Nate Montgomery continues to swing a consistent bat for NWI, as Montgomery was named Midwest Collegiate League Player of the Week after going 5-10 (.500) this past week with four doubles, four runs scored and seven RBI including a 3-4 day in the Oilmen’s first victory over the Southland Vikings all season long. The Oilmen got a good pitching performace from their starter Max Franklin on Sunday. Franklin went four innings, scattering two hits, issuing one walk and striking out seven to pick up his second win of the season. NWI starting pitcher Bobby Nowak has thrown 4.2 innings so far this season with three appearances and one start. Nowak owns a 11.57 ERA, has issued five walks and struck out four.
INSIDE THE BOBCATS
The Bloomington Bobcats are coming off a 3-2 loss against the Southland Vikings on June 26. Bloomington tried to rally in the ninth inning after stranding runners on third and second with one out but Vikings were able to get the last two outs to secure the victory. Bobcats starter Zach Frey who will be attending Indiana State, makes his second start of the season. Frey owns a 0-1 record with one save and owns a 0.79 ERA in 11.1 innings of work. Frey has issued three walks and struck out 12. Chris Monroe has been a big spark on the offensive side for Bloomington as he is hitting .269 with 18 hits, two doubles, one home run, eight RBI and 12 runs scored.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
The Bloomington Bobcats lead the all-time series, 12-11, with the Oilmen winning the most recent meeting, 11-5, back on June 15. NWI scored seven runs in the first three innings with an offensive outburst. Nick Figus went 4-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored against his former team in Bloomington. Oilmen starter in that game Chad Patrick was a bit wild but picked up the win as Patrick went four innings, scattered one hit, one run (none earned), issued five walks and struck out six. NWI looks to tie up the all-time series tonight.
