Oilmen Look To Get Back on Track Thursday

FOR STARTERS
The Northwest Indiana Oilmen look to get back on track after losing their first game in the last nine. The Oilmen host the first place DuPage County Hounds at Oil City Stadium and look to gain some ground in the standings on Thursday. The games between these two clubs always feel like championship caliber games and Thursday should be no exception. Both teams came in the Midwest Collegiate League in 2012 and have had some entertaining games since then.

INSIDE THE OILMEN
The Oilmen saw an eight game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 8-0 loss by the hands of the Bloomington Bobcats. NWI was shutout for the third time this season, second by the Bobcats and first at home. Wednesday starter Bobby Nowak went four innings, allowed two hits, gave up two runs (both earned), issued seven walks and struck out three. Thomas Kelley was the only Oilmen to have mulitple hits and reach base more than once. Kelley went 2-3 with two singles and a drew a walk. Thursday’s starter Anthony Robles looks to turn his season around on Thursday as Robles has made one start with two apperances. In 6.2 innings of work, Robles has a 16.20 ERA, has issued four walks and struck out four. Nate Montgomery leads the Oilmen in many offensive categories this season, he is hitting .365 (2nd), 23 hits (1st), six doubles (1st), four home runs (1st), 20 RBI (1st), 19 runs (1st), .651 slugging percentage (1st). 

INSIDE THE HOUNDS
The DuPage County Hounds are coming off a 9-8 victory against the Joliet Generals on June 27. Brett Taucher picked up the victory, with five innings of work, allowing three runs (all earned), issued three walks and struck out five. Dane Toppel went 3-4 with two singles, a double, three RBI and a run scored. Hounds starter Jesse Wainscott makes his fourth start of the season on Thursday. Wainscott owns a 2-0 record with a 4.91 ERA, he has thrown 14.2 innings, has issued eight walks and struck out 23. Toppel also leads the team at the plate as he is hitting .407 (24-59), five doubles, 25 RBI and 19 runs scored.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP
The Oilmen own the slight edge in the lead the all-time series, 29-28, with the Oilmen winning the most recent meeting, 11-3, back on June 16. Andrew Hancock picked up the victory for the Oilmen in that game, going five innings, allowed two runs (both earned), gave up three hits, issued seven walks and struck out three. Nick Figus went 2-3 in the game with a double and four RBI and a run scored. The two teams have only met two times this season with four of those games being rained out.
