Johnny Wendling will be a valuable part of the Oilman infield this season. Wendling joins the squad after an excellent freshman season with the University of Illinois- Springfield. His debut with the Prairie Star batted .284 with 39 starts in 41 games. Wendling had 13 extra base hits adding to his .889 OPS. Johnny grew up a fan of the Chicago White Sox, and his favorite player is lefty masher Bryce Harper. His favorite baseball memory was going to state for high school baseball at St. Laurence. Johnny takes pride in shaping his game after himself and his talent. He takes lots of great things from players, but there isn't one player in particular he tries to replicate. Outside of baseball, Johnny enjoys giving haircuts. He learned to cut hair and would give his teammates haircuts. He was born in Arizona and is the youngest of 8 kids. The newcomer to the squad played for Top Tier and was a 4-Year Varsity player at St. Laurence. His emergence as the starting third basemen at UIS made him the male rookie of the year for the school
